Flowers in and of itself are not just an alluring or captivating sight for us mere humans to appreciate. There is so evidently more about flowers that make them significant such as their life-giving qualities they possess. Flowers play a crucial role in the act of pollination, produce oxygen, partake in water purification, are sanctuaries for insects, aid in the reduction of soil erosion, and provide food and medicinal supplements. When flowers participate and assist in the ever so cardinal process of pollination, they utilize many different anatomical parts inside the flower which include the pistil (made up of the stigma, style, and ovary) and the stamen (consists of the anther and filament). Now, when flowers become sanctuaries and homes to insects and are a source for nutrients and medicine, the anatomical parts of the petal and sepal (the base of the flower bud) are predominantly used.

Famous surrealism artist Salvador Dali once said; “Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision”. With this quote as the inspiration for this body of work, it aims to create a surreal yet grounded view of how flowers are not just a beautiful sight, but an important part of the biosphere. With the seclusion of the given flora to the rest of the world, it allows us to focus on the anatomical details of the given subject matter. In addition, by including the stark pitch-black background, it alludes to how if flowers were to vanish from existence, the world as we know it would become bleak, dark, and cataclysmic.
